I grew up in a family business—a real estate and insurance agency—where I saw firsthand how multiple income streams create real financial security. When I was 8, my parents bought and rehabbed a duplex in what’s now historic Rivertown, renting one side to an attorney while running their business. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was soaking it all up!
The Small business tradition lives on...
I went on to major in accounting at Xavier University, and set out on the traditional corporate path. But by 27, I knew entrepreneurship was for me. That same year, I left corporate America, to pursue my side-hustle full-time, bought my first house (and turned it into a rental). Hmmm...now THAT sounds familiar!
The freedom of being a full-time Realtor, brought me face-to-face with small businesses in the community —and an opportunity to tap into accounting from the small business perspective. That experience would be priceless, helping me pass all four sections of the CPA exam on the first try just a few years later. The rest? You're reading it on this site!
